Cosmetic/ Aesthetic enhancement of breast volume by inserting silicone implants or fat
transfer to improve the size and appearance of the breasts.
Implants can be inserted over or under the chest muscles. Silicone implants are inert,
non-reactive and compatible with the human body, they have no harmful effects on the body.
As the implants are placed beneath the glands, they have no effect on the lactation and
women can breast-feed safely after their breast implant surgery.
Purpose of breast augmentation
Primary augmentation – To aesthetically enhance the size and feel of breasts in women with
small or unequal breasts.
Revision and Reconstruction – Revise or improvise the results of a previous breast
reconstruction surgery.
Primary reconstruction – To reform or replace the breast tissue which has been damaged from

Physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy person with a realistic expectation from breast
augmentation surgery.
Women who feel their breast size is smaller as compared to their body proportions, and who
want a symmetric pair of breasts.
Breast augmentation – The procedure
It is a day-care procedure that lasts about 1-2 hours in duration. It is performed under general
anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.
In selected patients, both admission and discharge can be planned on the same day. The
client may resume working in 3-5 days.
Routine activities of daily living can be started from the same day of the procedure as soon as
the effect of anesthesia wears off.
The scar placement is such that it is hidden below the breast fold & will not be visible unless
you lift the breast manually.
Breast reduction (Reduction mammoplasty)
Large breasts which are in excess to the size suitable to body proportions may create
situations that are socially embarrassing and uncomfortable.
Apart from the emotional discomfort, heavy breasts also hinder recreational activities like
jogging, dancing, swimming, and other sports.
Extremely large breasts may also lead to problems like back pain, shoulder pain, and difficulties
in maintaining hygiene in the area below the breasts (inframammary fold) leading to under
breast rashes.
The excess weight may also lead to grooves on shoulders from the bra-straps.
These problems can be very effectively managed with a breast reduction surgery, which is a
‘day-care’ procedure.
Up to 3-4 cup/ band sizes may be reduced in a single sitting.
Breast lift (Mastopexy)

volume and tends to sag, giving them a ‘deflated’ look.
